Dear Sir or Madame,

I have just heard of your recent actions against the occupants of Jodenbreestraat 24 in Amsterdam. Having recently discovered this space after many visits to Amsterdam I can tell you that removing it, and others like it, from your city center does you all a great disservice. The services provided by both the bookshop and ASCII (the Internet space) are more relevant to why the people of Europe and the world visit Amsterdam than another chain store.

Having lived in Amsterdam for the year of 1993, and returned on several visits since I am dismayed at how the city is giving itself away to short sighted corporate interests. I doubt that it is in the city's best interest to make itself yet another bland, American style, mall in the middle of Europe.

I strongly suggest you reconsider your decision to raise the rent on this space by 900%, effectively evicting good tenants in the name of greed.

Sincerely,
George Neville-Neil
