Children of Guinea

3.30

One of the only successful slave revolts in history, the 1793 Haitian revolution saw the ruin of the fulcrum of France’s ‘Triangular Trade’, the defeat of French and British armies by ex-slaves armed with little more than sticks, and ultimately the worldwide end of the slave trade. ‘Children of Guinea’ includes a radical reappraisal of CLR James’ seminal ‘Black Jacobins’, discussion of how the world’s first balck republic influenced struggles against colonialism across the world, and challenging consideration of how authentic Black liberation can be achieved.
