The first edition of this book was exclusively available at our bookstore in Paris, where it sold hundreds of copies. We are now releasing a second edition that will be available accross the globe. This book serves as a visual tribute to the graphic designers and artists of the 1960s and 1970s, who dedicated their talents to important causes such as feminism, anti-racism, and ecology. In this pictorial trip, we juxtapose their work with the broader design landscape of that era, including record covers, comic books, and advertisements. This approach highlights the high level of creativity present across mainstream and marginal spaces, as well as the porosity between these cultural layers. Beyond serving as an archival resource, we hope this book inspires designers to explore new visual languages for today’s causes. All images in the book have been digitized from our collection of international political posters, underground periodicals, and graphic design. This collection forms the basis of the Radical Media Archive foundation that Ramdane Touhami and Émile Shahidi established for the preservation of alternative press.
