Nico van Apeldoorn is activist, dichter en tekstschrijver. Hij was actief in de provobeweging in de jaren ’60 en was met kunstenaar Jan Bruens de drijvende kracht achter de anarchistische pamflettenreeks Gramschap in de jaren ’80.

Hij heeft weinig op met het onderscheid tussen muziekgenres. Zijn interesse bestrijkt pop, rock, country, folk, ballades, jazz, het Franse chanson, het Portugese lied, het Duitse politiek cabaret. Latijns-Amerikaanse muziek en meer. En overal komt hij muziek tegen die maatschappelijke betekenis heeft: Power Songs.

De stukken in deze verzamelbundel gaan niet allen over de platen en de songs die hem na aan het hart liggen, maar ook over persoonlijke herinneringen en over de plaats van de songs in de geschiedenis.

Neerlandicus, filosoof, schrijver, zanger en programmamaker Cor Gout schreef een inleiding.
