Rephrase edition 1 september 2025 (bilingual: Dutch and English)

The (Flemish) media landscape often offers little room for innovative and critical voices, as many editorial teams stick to familiar formats and predictable content. Rephrase aims to break this pattern by sharing stories that challenge traditional ways of thinking and offer new perspectives. We believe in the power of writing to not only ask questions, but also to stimulate change and innovation. Our platform is bilingual (and hopefully multilingual in the future): we publish in both Dutch and English to reach as wide an audience as possible. This allows us to offer writers from around the world the chance to make their voices heard and contributes to a diverse media landscape. At Rephrase, we recognize that media are never completely neutral. That is why we explicitly choose a progressive, creative, and intersectional approach. Our publications are selected with care, with an eye for quality, impact, and nuance. But our ambition goes beyond publishing alone. Rephrase is an inclusive (online) space where writers, editors, and readers feel safe, heard, and valued. For us, the person behind the story is just as important as the words themselves. With respect, autonomy, and a focus on diversity, we are building a community where stories are not only shared but also truly resonate.

Het (Vlaamse) medialandschap biedt vaak weinig ruimte voor vernieuwende en kritische stemmen, omdat veel redacties vasthouden aan vertrouwde formats en voorspelbare inhoud. Rephrase wil dit patroon doorbreken door verhalen te brengen die traditionele denkwijzen uitdagen en nieuwe perspectieven aanreiken. Wij geloven in de kracht van teksten om niet alleen vragen te stellen, maar ook verandering en vernieuwing te stimuleren. Ons platform is tweetalig (en hopelijk in de toekomst meertalig): we publiceren zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels om een zo breed mogelijk publiek te bereiken. Hierdoor bieden we schrijvers van over de hele wereld de kans om hun stem te laten horen en dragen we bij aan een divers medialandschap. Bij Rephrase erkennen we dat media nooit volledig neutraal zijn. Daarom kiezen we expliciet voor een progressieve, creatieve en intersectionele koers. De selectie van onze publicaties gebeurt zorgvuldig, met oog voor kwaliteit, impact en nuance. Maar onze ambitie gaat verder dan publiceren alleen. Rephrase is een inclusieve (online) ruimte waar schrijvers, redacteuren en lezers zich veilig, gehoord en gewaardeerd voelen. De persoon achter het verhaal is voor ons even belangrijk als de woorden zelf. Met respect, autonomie en aandacht voor diversiteit bouwen we aan een gemeenschap waarin verhalen niet alleen gedeeld worden, maar ook echt resoneren.
