Chilean politician Salvador Allende was a life-long Marxist. He served in the Chilean Senate from 1945 to 1970 and made three unsuccessful bids for the presidency, before finally winning the position in 1970. Allende attempted to implement large scale social reforms, as well as the nationalization of many Chilean industries. Allende’s opponents, supported by the CIA, overthrew him in 1973. Allende died during the coup. Contained in this volume is a collection of articles, speeches and other writing which span the career of this politician.
