The Essential Myrdal

Nobel Prize winner Gunnar Myrdal was one of the century’s leading social scientists, best known in America for the classic An American Dilemma, his study of America’s racial problem. That book was recently chosen as one of The Modern Library’s top 100 nonfiction books of the century and has probably influenced American thought as much as any since de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America. The Essential Myrdal covers the full range of Myrdal’s other writing, much of which has never been published in book form. It includes his early essays in economics, his thoughts on the population question, his discussions of the question of value in the social sciences, and excerpts from Asian Drama, his monumental study of the development of Asia.
