Übermensch

The Übermensch is a brooding German superhero. Beneath the spandex suit, enormous muscles play, but the head is full of pocket wool and great existentialist considerations. Mme Mechanté is a supervillain with a penchant for easy money and quick success. She has self-help mantras on her brain and finds the meaning of life in vertical social ascent. When they haunt the streets of the big city in their colorful costumes, they are natural enemies. But in civil law they are cohabitants; she’s the type who leaves all the dishes for her partner, he’s the type who takes it resignedly. Übermensch is a thoroughly ironic superhero satire that ultimately asks the question: If muscle-bulging supermen with fantastic powers can’t find meaning in life, what chance do the rest of us have? But above all, it is a deeply original humor comic, executed as a series of consecutive one-page strips in restless line, ugly idiom and colors so blindingly clear that they can be seen from the International Space Station.
