WOJNA
€18.50
On October 22, 2020 the Polish Constitutional Court ruled on the abortion law. The ruling, that constituted a de facto ban on abortion, led to the biggest protests since the fall of communism. The protesters not only turned against the ruling of the Court, but also against the conservative government and the influence of the Catholic Church in the country. A cultural battle erupted on the streets of Poland, mostly led by young women. To jest wojna, they declared. This is war. Even when the biggest protests died down and the newsrooms turned away, they kept resisting. Dutch writer and photographer Kris Oosting followed the protest movement for half a year from Warsaw, where the LGBT community was also heavily involved in the protests. This is his report. A testimony of young women leading a rebellion as well as an ode to a city that is always in transition. A selection of photos and interviews from the book can be found at www.wojna.nl. A portion of each sale goed to benefit organizations that support women’s rights and LGBT rights in Poland
