Dreams of Freedom

Along with such legendary figures as Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, Ricardo Flores Magón was one of the primary forces behind the Mexican Revolution. Born in Mexico in 1874, Magón was a tireless activist and journalist under the Díaz military regime. Through his widely read newspaper, Regeneración, which suffered coninuous government suppression, he boldly criticized the injustices of the country’ s dictatorship and worked to build the popular movement which would eventually overthrow it. Exiled to the United States, Flores Magón remained one of the most influential agitators for the Mexican Revolution. Both governments responded with harsh repression. Leavenworth Penitentiary finally murdered him in 1922.
This volume presents Magón’s writings in English for the first time. It includes a lengthy biographical sketch that places his work in historical context, a comprehensive chronology, bibliography, and an introduction by Benjamin Maldonado.
