Hungry for profit

26.00

A collection of essays which examines the integration of capitalism into agriculture, and the creation and consequences of ‘agri-business’ towards international food production. Looks broadly at many familiar issues, such as biotechnology and GMO foods, while also including national and historical case studies contexts, such as Cuba, China and early capitalist England. Most of the essays are dry and receptive, and difficult to read unless you are truly fascinated by this topic, or if the issues are brand new to you. However, a few stand out, such as Poppendieck’s essay about hunger among plenty, and Wood’s interesting look at the “agrarian origins of capitalism.”
