‘Pirates in Their Own Words’ is a collection of original documents relating to the ‘golden age’ of piracy. Letters, testimonies, witness accounts and other primary source documents written by the pirates themselves, their victims, and the men who hunted them down. E.T. Fox is a historian specialising in social history of the early-modern period (16-18th centuries), Fox was awarded his Master’s degree for his work on the use of dissident Jacobite politics by pirates of the early eighteenth century, and his doctorate for his thesis exploring the social history of the 17-18th century pirate community through their use of articles, or shipboard rules. His work involves the use and analysis of primary source documents, many of which he has edited and published to make them available to a wider audience.
